Bretten Lord

Actor Bretten Lord has turned to his second love – antiques – so he can combine living in the Dales with his thespian work.

The 21-year-old, best known for his lead role in the award-winning ‘Lad – A Yorkshire Story’, has also appeared on CBBC and has worked behind the scenes on video playback on films including Star Wars 8, The Commuter and On Chesil Beach.

He said: “I started buying and selling antiques when I was between jobs, since I was about 15/16 really. Then I decided to move back up here after being based in London for a year and set up my own antiques centre and salvage yard in Ingleton. I’m still doing acting jobs and it all fits in together really well.”

Now Bretten is back in the area where he grew up while his business provides an opportunity for other young entrepreneurs as well as himself.

He explained: “We have about 65 stalls at the centre, including one run by my girlfriend Meg Davison, who’s 19 and sells vintage clothing. Sixteen-year-old Elliot Belt, from Wigglesworth, sells his hand-crafted wooden items such as candleholders and lights.

“Other friends and family work here too so it’s keeping young people in the area.

“It is fantastic to be based in Ingleton. It’s a place which really feels like it’s on the up, there’s a buzz about the village. Lots of people pass through Ingleton, but more and more are stopping off and staying.”

Lord’s Antiques is open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm.
