Summer 2021 has seen a glorious return of festivals and events in the Lakes and Dales, some back from a short hiatus and others brand new! The festival season was kicked off in May with Hinterlands International Rural Film Festival, a film festival celebrating rural film in dramatic ways across the landscapes of the Lakes and Dales followed by the return of Eskfest at the beginning of July, a small and intimate music and arts festival set in the beautiful Cumbrian Eskdale Valley.

Brand new festival 42 Degrees managed to bag the best of the British summer weather mid-July, celebrating all things music, arts and culture in the stunning Lake District. Over in the Dales, first-time festival Gateways brought big names in music and film to Skipton including Razorlight, Buzzcocks and Feeder! Returning favourites also included Yarndale Festival 25th – 26th September and Kendal Torchlight Festival 24th – 26th September.

Although summer is ending and autumn is in, the festival season is far from over! There’s still plenty of music, arts, walking, landscapes and more to be enjoyed. Upcoming festivals include hybrid festival Hayden X Aerial at Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal on 9th October, The Lakes International Comic Art Festival 15th – 17th October and Kendal Mountain Festival 18th – 21st November. Settle Stories’ Yorkshire Festival of Story is also making a return this year from 12th November – 30th November so keep an eye out for more information coming soon.

If you’re already itching for next year’s festival season, plans for Hinterlands 2022 and 42 Degrees 2022 are already underway so watch this space for more updates!
