Public Art Now

public art now booklet cover

We’re on a mission to change perceptions of the area as younger generations are choosing to leave in favour of places which are seen as more affordable with better career opportunities. The Lakes and Dales needs to attract diverse, dynamic individuals to move here or stay here. So, what has public art got to do with that?

Our ‘Public Art Now! Campaign explores how public art can help us in our aims. Each project reflects the findings from conversations and research to keep public art higher on the agenda. It looks at the benefits it could bring to the area as well as offering real, tangible ways we could all work together to build public art into our everyday. Most importantly for Great Place: Lakes & Dales, it has young people at its heart; exploring how to involve them from the very start of commissioning and ensuring collaboration between younger artists, creative organisations, art professionals and local authorities.

We’d like to thank everyone who gave us their time, knowledge and experience to help shape this campaign. We know life is busy and uncertain for everybody at the moment but as communities look to rebuild and reshape their futures, arts and culture become ever more important as we reflect on home, place and being local.

Please take the time to read our campaign and we welcome any thoughts you have on how we can work together to kick start Public Art Now! Following on from releasing this booklet we intend to run an event bringing everyone; from artists and young people to policy-makers and those in local authorities together. Keep an eye out for details being released soon!
